300 people lost their homes in a four hour fire that hit a residential area in Barangay Arena Blanco on Monday, September 18. Over 100 houses were destroyed in Zamboanga City. Estimated damage to property was PHP 1.25 million = $22,000
Initial report from the Bureau of Fire Protection said that around 100 houses in Campung Landang and Sibictul were lost in the blaze. Profiling is being conducted by the City Social Welfare and Development Office to determine the number of victims. The fire started at 8:39 a.m. and reached third alarm. Fire out was declared at 12:55 p.m. The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office report indicated that 120 houses mostly made of light materials were razed by the more than four-hour conflagration. An updated report provided by the Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFC) showed that four persons, including a fireman, were injured during the fire incident.The ZCFD identified them as Fire Officer 1 Alghandi Paraji, Gerald Estrada, Sabdain Alsharif, and Abdulhamid Adameer.
