Ayats From The Holy Quran About Sadagah.
“And give the relative his right, and [also] the poor and the traveler, and do not spend wastefully.”
[Al-Isra, 17:26]
They ask you, [O Muhammad], what they should spend. Say, “Whatever you spend of good is [to be] for parents and relatives and orphans and the needy and the traveler. And whatever you do of good – indeed, Allah is Knowing of it.”
[Al-Baqarah, 2:215]
“Those who spend their money in the cause of GOD, then do not follow their charity with insult or harm, will receive their recompense from their Lord; they have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve.”
[Al-Baqarah, 2:262]
“O you who believe, you shall give to charity from the good things you earn, and from what we have produced for you from the earth. Do not pick out the bad therein to give away, when you yourselves do not accept it unless your eyes are closed. You should know that Allah is Rich, Praiseworthy.”
[Al-Baqarah, 2:267]
“(Alms are) for the poor who are confined in the way of Allah– they cannot go about in the land; the ignorant man thinks them to be rich on account of (their) abstaining (from begging); you can recognize them by their mark; they do not beg from men importunately; and whatever good thing you spend, surely Allah knows it.”
[Al-Baqarah, 2:273]
What Is Sadaqah?
Sadaqah or Sadaka (Arabic: صدقة, IPA: [sˤɑdæqɐ] “charity”, “benevolence”, plural ṣadaqāt صدقات) in the modern context has come to signify “voluntary charity”. According to the Quran, the word means voluntary offering, whose amount is at the will of the “benefactor”.
Sadaqah comes from the word sidq (sincerity), i.e. it is a sign of sincerity of faith on the part of the person who gives it.
With regard to the shar’i definition:
Zakaah means worshiping Allaah (SWT) by giving that which He has enjoined of different kinds of zakaah to those who are entitled to them, according to the guidelines prescribed in sharee’ah.
Sadaqah means worshiping Allaah (SWT) by giving money without that being made obligatory in sharee’ah. The word sadaqah is sometimes used to refer to obligatory zakaah.
